In the context of the Project financed by the European Union, the
International Ombudsman Conference on “The Future Of Human Rights in
the 21 Century” has been realized in Ankara between 11-12 January 2023.

At the opening of the conference organized in the framework of the “Technical Assis-
tance Project for the Empowerment of the Role of the Ombudsman in the Protection
and Promotion of Human Rights” financed by the EU, the Speaker of the Grand Na-
tional Assembly of Türkiye Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şentop, Chief Ombudsman of Türkiye Mr.
Şeref Malkoç, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye & Director for EU Affairs
Mr. Faruk Kaymakcı and UNHCR Türkiye Representative Mr. Philippe Leclerc made
their speeches.

In his speech at the Conference, the Speaker of the Parliament Prof. Dr. Mustafa
Şentop stated that human rights violations and problems have become the most
controversial topics in the world. For this reason, he said that he believed that the
works to be carried out under such a topic and the mutual knowledge and experience
sharing would be very beneficial.

In his welcoming speech, Chief Ombudsman of Türkiye Mr. Şeref Malkoç, thanked all
the representatives who attended the conference for responding to the calls of the
Ombudsman of Türkiye from various parts of the world, to overcome the problems
through friendship and to build a peaceful world in which human rights are respect-
ed.
