rights. And this is why we had to study and it took us one year to carry
out. It looks at every level of education from preschool to university
level also some voluntary educational activities, vocational training
and generally one can say that there were a lot of activities but they
were not systematic. And often they were carried out by NGOs rather
than government officials. So we published a report and this is in fact
also available in English with all the recommendations on the website.
It is still fairly up to date although I am happy to report that some
progress has been achieved especially at the level of school curriculum
we have managed to get much more human rights language into the
curriculum. And this work is ongoing we have now moved on to more
concrete development of contents to be able to offer some modules
on to those who are interested. And one thing we have to watch for
of course that we will not try to take over things that the government
itself should be doing. So, training of judges, training of police of
course is the obligation of the government branches rather than us,
               we do complementary things.
I should mention also to complement the Croatian ombudsman the
information that the skills that I mean it is the way of working and
different skills that separate us from the traditional ombuds work or
dealing with complaints. One thing which is very difficult is how to
provide good education and training in a sound pedagogic way, we tend
to think it is mainly for lawyers and this is I think one of the challenges
that we are trying to address by working with research institutes not
only lawyers but multidisciplinary approach is needed. I think the same
applies to providing information awareness raising, we are quite used to
as lawyers to deal with other lawyers and provide information in a legal
way but how to convey and communicate with broader audience is a big
challenge. I am not here to say that we have answers but we are trying
different ways also to communicate in more normal language we were
just trained last week the whole office on how to write simple language,
I do not even know what is in English but it means you simplify things
so that people can really understand it. And of course we have different
language versions and all that is needed. We also use social media a lot
and Facebook, so it is endless what you can do.
I have already mentioned that we have the new task coming up with
the CRPT. I should also mention our thematic work, we try this by the
