Thank you.

Mr. President, Speaker of the Parliament, distinguished guests,
ladies and gentlemen it is a great honour for me to be here. As you
know Sweden is pretty proud of the ombudsman institution. The
word “ombudsman” actually is one of the few Swedish words that
have made it into other languages, it is a Swedish word. And the first
ordinance which introduced the ombudsman in Sweden was issued
on 26 October 1713 when our king at the time Charles the 12 we had
th
some problems with the Russians so he fled the Ottoman Empire and
he was the guest of Sultan of Edirne and he dispatched his ordinance
by horse to Sweden. And since then we have ombudsman which has
been developed over the years. And my presence here is to confirm
that our support to the Turkish Ombudsman Institution will continue
and we have had a very good cooperation, it will continue and this
conference which is part of a product to increase the awareness of the
Ombudsman Institution among the Turkish public, it is an evidence to
that, it is a long journey, Rome was not build in one day, Istanbul was
not build in one day, so it is a long term product but we will be as much
as we can to your help. And the very idea of the ombudsman is to the
bureaucracy, the administration accountable to be on the side of the
citizen, to make sure that the bureaucracy follows the laws. And I can
only wish you good luck and I can only assure you that we, as Sweden
try to help you as much as possible. Thank you for your attention.
