QUESTIONS and ANSWERS- SESSION I
CHAIR: Thank you Jernej Rovsek, Acting Ombudsman of Slovenia for
talking about ombudsman and anti-discrimination efforts. I believe he
mentioned very interesting topics. Reduction of pensions and its increase
again was striking for me. Auditing constitutionality of the laws, accepting
sexual orientation and disability as a group and law on fight against
discrimination and co-existence of Equal Opportunity Organization and
Ombudsman are interesting topics. Thank you for this great talk.
Now, we are expecting questions.
Since the floor will be recorded, could you please identify yourself and your
organization and then make a brief contribution rather than a comment.
Please also indicate to whom you are asking your question.
M. NİHAT ÖMEROĞLU- I am Nihat Ömeroğlu, Chief Ombudsman of Turkey.
I would like to thank Mr. Chair and speakers for their talks and also
Madame Professor for wrapping up the topic.
I have two questions in a row to Mrs. Spanou. First one: what is the
ratio of the complaints about women rights or violence against women
at Greek Ombudsman? Unfortunately, in Turkey, we have only one
ombudsman who deals with women and child rights. Compared to
other complaints, they are not plenty. I do not know why but Turkish
women abstain from filing a complaint to Turkish Ombudsman. That
is why I wonder the ratio in your country.
The second question: regarding sexual harrassment, upon complaint
to Ombudsman, do you refer such cases to the law enforcement for
criminal investigation. Do you follow up that after that stage or do you
act like a mediator and expect the related organization to conclude a
verdict or decision?
Thank you.
